Its about fucking time I can get on the internet!
When the Fox and LFL logos appear it hits you, This is the last EVER Star Wars film.
The opening scroll made me go weak at the knees, although I still have a dislike for the wording of it.
After the opening 10 minutes I was thinking to myself “If this film continues like this, it could possibly dethrone “Jedi” as my favourite movie in the saga.” Everything was quality. There was not a time when I doubted Lucas writing or directing… Ummm… sorry I take that back. If Obi-Wan says “Artoo” one more time I may need to kill myself. That alone was the only thing that bothered me, within the first 10 minutes or so.
Lets get this strait… there are many things Lucas can do, but writing a script is not one of his strongest abilities. The cast were awesome and did their utmost to compensate for some of Lucas’ worst dialogue. The star of the show is Ewan… I was slightly disappointed with Palpatine. Ian’s acting was outstanding… but again Lucas’ script let us down. There were times when the audience were actually giggling and laughing during Palpatine’s pleading to Anakin.
Grievous… I actually quite liked him… The coughing and wheezing was quite annoying after a while. The only thing I find poor was when the man revealed his 4 lightsabers.
ILM did a fucking amazing job but the way Obi-Wan can chop off 2 of the General’s hands, while he was moving as fast as that is too unrealistic.
That’s the problem with a Star Wars film, after only watching it once… one tends to remember more of the bad than good. So now I will just list the bad and then the good… it saves me writing out 10 pages for a review, then you can ask questions after.
BAD[/b]
The way Lucas repeats dialogue, for example: “My new Empire” and “I saw him killing the younglings”… these were repeated about 3 times and each time they don’t seem right.
Rubbish conversations, for example:
PALPATINE: Are you going to kill me, Anakin?
ANAKIN: I would certainly like to!
PALPATINE: I know you would, I can feel your anger, it gives you focus.
Yoda vs Sidious duel was a little too short.
Sidious’ face… too fat, too green. (You will see what I mean)
Cringe lines that you want to give Lucas a slap for adding: “From my perspective the Jedi are Evil”, “My new power”, Etc…<br>
“Obi-Wan has told me terrible things, like you have turned to the darkside and have killed younglings!” – Padme… OK, we get it, the guy has killed the younglings! Why couldn’t Lucas change the wording a little, for example “Anakin you killed the kiddies” or “Anakin, Obi-Wan told me you slaughtered children in the Jedi temple.”<br>
Palpatine’s loss to Windu… Did he beat him or was he faking it? How can he lose to Mace after killing 3 of the most powerful masters in the order and then go on to OWN Yoda??
Suited Vader’s tantrum, was not good. A few things crush and he opens his arms and says “Nooooo!”. JEJ was good though.
GOOD[/u]
The acting.
Lucas’ directing.
CGI… although there was a little too much.
Anakin’s evil deeds… Its heartbreaking when that little English kid says “Master Anakin, what shall we do?” Then Vader coldly ignites his saber. Wow. Very powerful indeed.
Anakin and Obi-Wan’s friendship is obvious, the betrayal is more meaningful.
You believe it when Natalie gives birth.
For once you finally believe Ewan is Obi-Wan and not just some dude doing a reasonable impression.
Dooku’s beheading.
Jet Lucas’ cameo was cool… bloody cool.
The Separatist slaughter.
The duel was great.
Vader’s reference to a possible Obi-Wan/Padme affair.
Order 66
Comedy… yes that’s right. It was actually pretty good. R2 vs Super Battle Droids was a laugh. Sidious calling Yoda, “my little green friend” and of course Obi-Wan’s “Sith Lords are our speciality” line. Hilarious, Hahaha!
The Battle of Coruscant was outstanding.
…and many more things that were wonderful. (Ask what you want to know.)
To sum everything up: It was a great film… but I found myself already familiar with everything. I would watch a scene and suddenly think to myself “Oh look that’s a Spoileriffic shot from December!” So maybe people, who hadn’t spoiled themselves, will enjoy their first time more. John Williams included an amazing score once again.
There was still something missing though… but I can’t place my finger on it.
I was expecting myself to cry or get upset at the end, but I didn’t, and I can’t explain why. This is my joint 2nd favourite Star Wars movie along with ESB… ROTJ Still has its throne.
Overall Score as a movie: 7/10
Overall Score as a Star Wars movie from the eyes of a fan: 9/10
Best Actor: Ewan McGregor
#1 Best scene: Everything from, The Battle of Coruscant to the crash landing on Coruscant.
#2 Best scene: The Birth of the twins inter cut with the birth of Vader.
#3 Best scene: Order 66 and the slaughter of the Separatist leaders.
Worst scene: Most of the Padme/Anakin stuff.
Best line: “I hate you!” – Darth Vader as his flesh begins to burn. This really sums up the whole saga and Anakin’s fall to the Darkside.
Worst line: “Love can’t save you Padme, only my new powers can do that.”<br>Biggest disappointment: No Qui-Gon Jinn, only a reference to his existence. This pissed me off allot. This was one of the greatest ideas Lucas has had in the PT. Qui-Gon’s original lines in the script were actually the best dialogue Lucas has ever written. If Liam Neeson had recorded his lines it would have made the film and the entire saga much more meaningful… but at least we know he was there… at least Yoda pointed him out, even if we didn’t hear or see him.
Best Cameo: Jet Lucas was fucking cool, he kicked some major clone rectum.
Action: 10/10
Script: 6/10
CGI: 10/10
Best use of CGI: The Battle of Coruscant.
To quote a review I once read, “You won’t be asking people “Have you seen it?” The question will be, “How many times have you seen it?””
The saga is complete… enjoy it.
