Thought I would put this up because America just put to death its 1000 murderer since 1976 when Capitial Punishment was reintroduced. Personally I'm neither here nor there. I believe some people are truely evil bastards and don't deserve to live but it can be used too much or for the wrong reasons. Though USA seems to be keeping it in line, for the most part, since 1000 people over 30 years, for a country the size of America isn't much really. Also to take into account is that over a third of those (355) where from Texas, so if they can be pulled back a little it would be almost perfect in my mind (from what I know).

Those who commit atrocities such as horrific murders deserve to die. Some Joe Schmo who shoots some other Joe Schmo in a bank robbery does not deserve to die, because the murder was not premeditated. He most likely acted on impulse so he can rot in jail for the rest of his life.
But, people like Scott Peterson, Adolph Hitler (who, in fact, killed himself), Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein all deserve to die for their horrificl crimes. Scott Peterson killed his pregnant wife and unborn child by cutting off their heads. Adolph Hitler was responsible for the deaths of six million people, five million more if you count soliders and other civilians that were killed in a war that was his fault to begin with. Osama Bin Laden is responsible for terrorist attacks all over the world, such as the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing, the US Embassy Bombings in 1998, the attack on the USS Cole in 2000 and the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. He is also the reason why the War on Terror started in the first place. Last but certainly not least, Saddam Hussein is responsible for thousands and thousands of Iraqis and then some since he became leader of Iraq. He is also the reason why Desert Storm took place.
Clearly, these people are truly evil and don't deserve to keep living. Sure, they may think they are making peace with whatever God they believe in, but the almighty is still not all forgiving. He may forgive you as a person, but I do not think that he would forgive your crime. You would find some happiness, but not eternal happiness.
The main reason that the death penalty even exists is for one reason, and it is not to deter others of the crime. That's the ideal world, however we do not live there. It's for catharsis, which in the legal system is called retribution. People need this revenge to have a sense of closure and a peace of mind, knowning that the person who has deeply affected your life through horrible and dispicable means has recieved just punishment and is rotting in Hell for all eternity. This gives you your catharsis. Wanting this is not a bad thing, regardless of what some fruity-tooty, hippy-dippy "Save the Whales" person might say to you. Wanting this revenge so you can have a sense of closure is human nature, and don't you ever forget that. You cannot change human nature, and in thise sense....we shouldn't change.
But, there is one problem in this: hypocricy. If someone close to me was to be executed for a crime they committed, I would feel sorry. It is human nature, which again you cannot change. But, if there is one thing I despise it is being a hypocrite in an important issue such as this. Of course I would rather have them stay alive to spare me the pain of them dying, but I would not forget the crime they committed that landed them the death penalty. I would feel sorry for the loved ones of the victim, and I would rather be in pain then have that family be in pain for not recieving catharsis.

What some people fail to realize is that the tax payers have to pay to keep a criminal who has affected their community terribly in jail. Why should we, the tax payers, be forced to pay for this guy to recieve room and board? Say some guy slaughtered your best friend our your brother and left him to die. Let's say he got life in prision. Do you realize that as an indirect victim who has been traumitized you would now have to pay for this guy to be in prision for 30, 40, 50 + years? That's not fair to anyone. Let's see, a five dollar rope or millions of dollars from the tax payers?

My prison would be like this:
1) a 7ft x 7ft x 7ft (l x w x h) 2) no windows no cage only light is the slits in the reinforced doors. 3) give them the most tastless food they got in the world (something that would keep them alive but not to healthy) 4) and finally the only other thing in the room is a hole in the floor to piss in or take a crap.
but that's me (and whilst keeping the costs down)

In severe cases, yes. I can't see letting someone out of prison who they know will murder several again. Also, our prisons are already overcrowded. There's no way they can just house everyone until they die of old age or other complications. Besides, even in biblical times, there were death penalties handed out....at least now these death penalties are more humane. TX has a higher rate because they aren't scared to go through with it. Also, I believe a law is in place or soon will be in place where if you've committed a crime 3 times before, you go to the front of the line in Death Row.

actually that is a good statement, although the American government often looks over the crimes of their president, thinking that he has the right to do that.
Yes, capital punishment is right and more people should get it in my opinion.
