I has nothing to do with the force. The power in question “Dissipate Energy,” is used to absorb force based attacks, not blaster bolts. As Bac stated it was to do with the fact his arm was mechanical. A blaster shot is a small bolt of pure energy, when it hits walls it scolds them, when it hits flesh it burns it. Have you never noticed that more than one shot is often needed to kill with a blaster, its because the amount of damage with one is nowhere near enough. You need to keep hitting for you to score a shot somewhere that can be easily penetrated or would be fatal to get hit (Head, Stomach etc). Keeping this in mind for a blaster to hit metal it will often do very little damage, in the case of droids you need to burn through wiring. Darth Vader would not have been able to withstand multitudes of bolts onto his hand, yet one or two would have worked fine.

Your gonna make me look it up arn't you...YOU GIT! If it's EU, or any other "Visual Dictionary" type crap, my answer is this: The films (in this case, The Empire Strikes Back) are of higher canon than ANY book, comic, magazine, radio drama, etc. If you are looking for a retarded fanboy answer, I would say that he had special Sith technology that allowed his ship to do it.

Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter is a part of the EU. It does not matter if it's by an experience Star Wars writer or not. Films outweigh the EU whether you like it or not.

Well....no not really you cant just dismiss the books....because there is a little change in someone perception of a certain thing....I think the reason maul had a cloak was because palpatine had an experimental cloak that he tested on his apprentices ship and when the empire came to being he told very few imperials......So I have basically answered my own question....oh well

if i were to answer this myself, i would say that the empire had maybe done some experiments but had not yet made it avalible to the general public, thus a civilian ship would not have it
it's only a guess, and like bac is trying to say, books of the EU are not cannon (sp?) because Lucas did not write them himself and therefore the author bestows his own opinion on the universal thing that is the Star Wars Universe, in other words he/she adds her own perspective

Yeah, I was talking to mandalore about cloaking devices. I didn't realize that the book was considered EU because it took place right before Ep. 1 and contained characters from the movie. I got the idea from when I was devising cloaking devices for my old fleet and I had read about them on Starwars.com and how the Empire had used them. Interesting...

even books that were written from characters from the movies are EU if they're not written by Lucas himself, UNLESS he came up with the whole idea and had someone ghost write for him, which i don't think ever happened
