Pax's eyes widened in surprise at the sudden move, but the force had given her just enough warning. As the saber came down, Pax ducked to the side, rolling out of the way. That was close... she thought to herself, jumping to her feet before she could be attacked again. She eyed her master warily. Pax hadn't had time to think, she had had to act, a state of reaction...

Lirra backed away once more, giving her saber a flashy spin that was neat to look at but vertually useless before settling it back in front of her.
"Never allow yourself to be distracted, Padawan. You must always be aware of your surroundings, always be open to the Force. A Jedi must focus... but in focusing they must also be aware. Yet even though you were distracted, you still reacted. This is good. In a real life situation, your enemy would not give you the leisure of thought. All their is, is reaction. You must learn to trust the Force.... let it guide you."
Lirra straightened up, shutting off her saber.
"I think that is enough for this lesson. I want you to study the archives, particularly the lessons of Master Odan-Urr. When next we meet you will tell me what you have learned and your opinion on it. You are dismissed."
OOC: I have to run. 'Night.

((oh good, lol, cuz i have class tomorrow morning and it's 1:30 am here...))
Pax nodded, deactivating her training saber. "I will, master." She bowed to her master and walked out of the room, clipping her saber to her belt. The session had given her a lot to think about. Focusing was one of Pax's problems. She was working on it. She could use the force quite easily, unlike most of the other students her age. It felt like breathing to her. But focusing... Pax sighed, Of course Master Lirra would figure that. What did I expect? And she's right, that's exactly what I need to work on. Thinking about that, Pax made her way to the archives.

SOMETIME LATER...
Lirra was once again awaiting her Padawan, though this time with a good deal more patience. She found she was actually looking forward to it... the first session hadn't gone half bad, in her opinion. And she was curious as to what the girl's responce to he 'homework' would be.
'It's sure to be interesting...'
OOC: Feel free to respond whenever. You don't have to wait around for me, I'm often here at weird times.

((sry, I had a huge paper due today, but I'm back now))
Paximo walked into the training room. Seeing Master Lirra was already there she stopped and bowed. "Hello Master," Pax had of course done what her master had requested. She had been at the archives all day reading over the code.

OOC: Tis quite alright.
"Greetings Padawan. Sit." Lirra gestured at the ground in front of her. "Tell me about what you have learned."

Pax nodded, seating herself across from her master, settling into the meditation possition easily. "Well, Master, I did what you said. I visited the archives and researched the Jedi code, particularly Master Odan-Urr. I learned about what the code actually means. Before it was just words that confused me. I didn't understand why we were told to live like this, I just figured our elders knew best. Now I realize that it is a way to leave a peaceful life, one with the force. I think I follow most of the code pretty well. I try not to judge and be biased. If I think I may have leanings a certain way, I take a step back and examine my thoughts objectively, or I try to anyways. I can't know for certain, but I hope I do. I also try to find the truth, I'm always seeking that, even if it is something I do not want to hear. However, I can see places where I might have difficulty. I have always been able to access the force so easily, it's like breathing to me. I don't think I've fallen into the state yet, but I read what Master Odan-Urr said about depending on it. I also have trouble focusing, unless there's a direct threat. I am working on these things, of course, master. So, that is what I learned. I had a question, though, where do emotions fit in a Jedi's life?" Pax looked up at her master, hoping she had covered what her master had wanted her to cover.

Lirra nodded slowly, pleased. "You did well, Padawan. Knowing that you have faults is the first step to correcting them."
She considered the girl's question for a moment, frowning. "They don't. Emotions... particularly strong emotions... can lead to the Dark Side. Love, hate, anger, fear, all are frought with danger. A Jedi must put these things aside. Self control."

Pax frowned, "But what about emotions in general. Isn't it important to feel? Not strongly, not passion, but to feel some emotion?"

Lirra sighed shaking her head.
"Small emotions have the potential to become bigger ones. You should have compassion and respect for life. Nothing more, nothing less. You will learn as I did that it is far easier to shut it all out then to try to shut out only part of it."

Pax frowned, "Then i think that will be the most difficult, master. To feel is to be human. I will try, though."

"Jedi must be above and beyond human, Padawan. And there is no such thing as 'try'. Either you do, or you don't."
Lirra got to her feet, dusting off the back of her robes.
"Enough philosophy. I think you're ready to start on some Force techniques... what do you think?"

Pax, still thinking about the conversation, stood up, too. Bringing herself back to the present, she blinked. Grinning, she nodded, "I agree, master."

"Then I will teach you as much as I can. It is difficult to truly learn such things, in a class room. Experience teaches best. But that will come soon enough."
She walked to the back of the room, where she'd assemled several odds and ends to assist in training. One of which was an exeptionaly large bolder.
A flick of her wrist sent it skidding towards the Padawan to come to an abrupt halt a few feet away, settling down with a loud clunk.
"Reach out with the Force. Feel it. Lift it."

Pax tilted her head, nodding. She reached out for the force and felt it welcome her. Grinning inside, she felt the boulder through the force, felt the energy surrounding it. Shifting her focus to without as opposed to withing, Pax gently lifted the boulder up into the air."
