The empty room in which Lirra had chosen to begin her padawan's training was large empty, devoid of anything that could cause distraction. The lack of decoration gave it a sort of depressing feel, but the young Jedi Knight rather liked it. There was plenty of space to do what needed to be done.
She was pacing the room's length, restlessly awaiting the girl's arrival. It would be the first she'd ever trained, and at first she'd been reluctant to do it. She was the kind of person who preffered to work alone... but the young padawan had intrigued her. She had potential. To have a hand in shaping that potential would be wonderful thing.
"Any minute now..."

Pax glanced up at the the clock, sprinting down the corridors to where she was to meet her new master. 2 minutes... Pax passed the fountains and wove her way through students and masters completeing their daily business. Arriving at the room, Pax stopped and took a moment to catch her breath. Just made it... she thought to herself. She didn't know what awaited her in the room, but she felt more than ready. Pax straightened up and walked into the room. It was kinda bleak, but it she didn't much like the bright colorful rooms, so it suited her. She turned towards her new master.

Lirra stopped in her pacing as Paximo entered, a faint smile gracing her features as she gave the girl a polite bow in greeting.
"Ah, good morning Young one. I trust you are well?"
Straightening up she gave the padawan a long, measuring glance. Apparently she was pleased with what she saw for she gave a satisfied little nod and turned to walk towards the center of the room.
"And eager to begin, I'll wager."

Pax returned the bow, allowing herself a small smile in return. "I am a little eager, master," she admitted.
Pax hesitated, then walked to the center of the room.

"As well you should be. Much is before you. But take care that you do not look forward to the future so much that you neglect the present."
Lirra turned to face the girl once more.
"Do you have a training saber?"

Pax nodded, pulling out her training saber and showing it to her master.
She found it hard not to think about the future, sometimes. Still, Pax knew that it was important to live for today. I suppose I'll need to find a balance between the two...

"Good. In time, you will craft a weapon of your own... you will not long survive in my company without one." Lirra grinned ever so slightly. "I've a knack for geting in the worst sort of trouble. But for now, that one will do."
She drew the elegantly crafted hilt of her own saber, sinking into a defencive stance.
"First, we'll have a bit of a spar... I am eager to see what you're capable of."
Her saber's blue blade hissed to life.
"Hit me, if you can."

Pax looked up surprised. Sparring already? It wasn't a bad surprise, though. Pax loved working with her saber. That had been one of her best areas at the temple.
She ignited her saber and approached cautiously, using the force to examine her opponent.
Feinting to the left, Pax shifted her momentum to the right and used her speed to strike at what was usually the weaker side. Of course, Jedi rarely had weaker sides, they trained to use both hands.

Lirra was moving well before the strike came close to hitting, snapping her blade around to block with the ease that came with years of practice. Yet she couldn't help but admire the skill with which the blow was executed, even if it didn't succeed. This kid had talent.
"Very good. Try again."
She backed away, bringing her saber back up in a defensive position.

Pax stepped back, and tried approaching from a different angle.
She closed in, circling around, trying to keep her opponent moving. Pax sent occassional glancing blows to both sides, nothing meant to be a full out strike.
Then, she came in, striking once to the left and once to the right, expecting those to be blocked. She quickly ducked down, aiming a blow up and under, hoping to catch her master off guard there. Pax also pushed out gently with the force. Maybe she could atleast catch her off balance...

Lirra snapped her blade left then right, blocking the minor strikes with relative ease. The last sprised her, but not as much as the padawan might have hoped. She used the gentle Force push to her advantage, strengthining it into a backwards leap that took her out of harms way... but it was a close shave. A few seconds later and she would have ended up with a very interesting burn.
"You are resoursful." she remarked softly, regaining her footing. "A clever trick."
She slowly circled around the girl, lightsaber at the ready.
" 'If a Jedi ignites his lightsaber, he must be ready to take a life. If he is not so prepared, he must keep his weapon at his side.'. Tell me, Padawan, do you know who spoke those words?"

Paximo kept moving, careful to match her pace for pace. After a few moments of thought, she shook her head, "No, master," she answered honestly, "I either cannot recall, or never learned his name, though I have heard the words before."

"Master Odan-Urr. A man of many interesting views. The meaning, as far as I can make of it, is this- If a Jedi takes up a weapon, he must be prepared to kill. But there are other ways to solve a problem... your blade should always be a last resort, Padawan, used only when all other options are exhausted. As a Jedi, it is your responsibility to discover peacful solutions. But if you do enter a fight, it is also your responsibility to end it. Swift and merciful."
Lirra crept slowly towards her, raising her saber.
"Do you understand?"

Pax settled in a defensive stance, still circling. She nodded, "I think so. Our job first and foremost is peacemaker, diplomat. However, if there is not a peaceful solution, we must be prepared to do what is neccessary. We cannot hesitate." She looked at her master, wondering if she had gotten it right.

Lirra smiled. "Precisely."
She lunged forward suddenly, bringing her blade over her head and down at the girl in one smooth motion.
