I don't know how much it is in England, but here in the US it was $69.99 and you get a 1-yr subscription to xbox live, a headset, and a game (Crimson Skies). Totally worth it in my opinion.

I have never played the game that comes with it, but the headset is nice. Besides, I convinced my girlfriend to get it for me for Christmas. I would have gotten it anyways, but this way was much better  |

Had it, but I dropped it because most of the games I prefer to play are not on-line ,, I'll get it back when I pick up my 360

when i get my 360 my current account is suposed to switch over to the 360 without paying extra or anything

for 360 yes, for right now for the current xbox, there is no gold or silver, it's just one single account type for everything.
but if you get an xbox live account now, then when the 360 comes out, your account will auto switch over and become a gold account ;D

I'm going to get X-Box live for my normal X-Box and then next year get the 360. Cheaper. As far as I know, it's only £39.99 for a whole year, including the Headset and things.
For my first ever 12 months on X-Box live, i get:
Headset
12 Months Subscription (Yay)
Somet else as well
So all that for £39.99 I can't wait.
