Off topic:Ive noticed change in your way of locking political threads since I was last here.
On topic: The situation isn't very "comical" at all considering how bad it has gotten, I remember hearing of the first death, an old man coming out to put out his car fire, he was then beaten and put in the hospital, when you look at the cause of this it is very prejudice on a variety of levels.

Okay, forgive me, "comedic" was a poor choice of words, and I know that the situation is bad. It's just that if people want to have a good laugh and not bash another country, that's fine.
Also, what do you mean by "a change"?

It seemed last time I was here there were literally dozens of political or country bashing topics, then I was a Conservative, but someone has recently opened my eyes to the lies of the Bush administration... anyways I am flying off the point.
People tend to make the good out of a situation such as this, I however see the true horror of it as I'm sure so do others on here.

It pisses me off a bit, considering this basically started when a black man was prosecuted, or beaten I'm not sure which exactly it is, it makes me angry that there are still racists who are allowed to enforce things like this, the religious persecution in Europe right now is deplorable. However funny this topic may be. Are you joking? this is complete bollocks the french arn't particuly racist these people are rioting for no reason....based on something that may or may not have happened

People, as of right now this is a comedy thread which is just fine. But, that America joke could potentially be taken out of context by someone who doesn't have a sense of humor. Do NOT turn this into an "Anti-*insert country here*" argument, or I will be forced to lock this thread. Carry one.... Ok so basically, we can insult other contries as long as its not america?

Don't turn that around like that. I used the United States as an example because people here tend to have too much fun bashing it. I said do not bash any country, but obviously people are going to turn this around like you just did. This thread is done, because after a lot of thinking I now agree with Scarface. You guys are just going to laugh at something bad that is happening. Until people can be mature enough to actually discuss a situation without a) laughing or b) bashing another country, regardless of what that country may be, then these threads should still be forbidden. Remember, we're not talking about Star Wars governments here. This is real life, and it's not something to laugh at. So, hopefully people will learn to act grown up when it comes to situations like these.

Sorry Bac... but he is right... Im sure if I started to bash Canada he wouldnt give a shit, we could all have a laugh about it. Anyone can bash the English Gov, that doesnt bother me, Matt or any other Brit here.
It seems to me that Americans are the only ones who get offended by people who are just randomly chatting about other nations.
So from now on, I will allow people to talk about this, but lets just remember, having a laugh and a joke is alright but lets not take it too seriously and dont talk about America... that is not worth the hassle.

Well, Jetzt, I never said don't bash America. I said don't turn this into an "Anti *insert country here*" debate.
And, let me address this: do you want to know why we get offended? Let me tell you! We are subject to it all the time because people's opinions are different than our government's. It also is sad to see that so many people get their "facts" from the media and their parents. If you were to start bashing our government's efforts in Iraq, fine. Go ahead, because mistakes were made. But (I don't mean to call you out on this, Jetzt), but when people start throwing out crazy conspiracy theories that they got from their parents or BBC, it's unsettling.
The only reason I get upset is because people that aren't from America think they know everything about us, when in reality they know very little about us.
I will ignore this thread for now, but all I ask is that you don't laugh about this French issue. It's not funny, so don't make it out to be. Just try to discuss an actual problem without making a French joke.
/Ends rambling

Now, I understand where you are coming from, however, none of us listen to the media or our parents. We are the English... the home of Newspapers and lying politicians. My mother doesnt like Bush, but she never speaks about it. My father works at RAF Northolt, the 2nd most important airbase in the country after RAF Brize Norton. I hear allot of stories... but I make up my own mind what the truth is.
I am not telling you that I know everything about America, and quite frankly I dont give a shit.
..but now Americans really have to start looking from others point of views. YOU are given the vote to give someone the authority to be the leader of every nation in the world. Thats what we really do have a problem with. America is the only real Superpower left on Earth. The only nation that could have the power to stop you is the British, however we would be outnumbered by huge amounts and would lose terribly. This is why we follow America in everything they do... our government follows through fear, no matter how it effects our nation or our people. If we refuse to follow America then we will become subjects of ridicule from the American public. English Tea will probably be known as Freedom Tea... Oh wait, wasn’t that already used with the French? Oui...

He has a point there and the media has nothing to do with it.....france would have nothing to do with the Iraq war and bush ridiculed them...that is a fact.

He has a point there and the media has nothing to do with it.....france would have nothing to do with the Iraq war and bush ridiculed them...that is a fact. And I do not agree with Bush in that sense. He never should have done that to the French. But, maybe the media doesn't affect you guys, but there are a great deal of people who only listen to what the media tells them and only sees THAT side of the issue. Now, forgive me for being a total loser, but this is what I do. If I want to analyze an issue, I will watch CNN (Liberal) and then I will watch FOX (Conservative) and then find the middle ground between the two, since the middle is ALWAYS where the truth is. Also, Jetzt, I agree that Americans need to look at more than one point of view. They either stay in their Liberal Bubble or their Conservative Bubble and don't EVER leave them (well, most people do). That pisses me off to no end, because there are people who claim to be so knowledgable with issues who are not because they only see their own POV. And then, I swoop in and have to educate them. Yes, I like Bush. Yes, I support the War in Iraq. Do I think they've made mistakes? Fuck yes. Now, suprisingly enough, I am not a Conservative. But, I am also not a Liberal. I am a Moderate Republican, and I am able to see both sides while having more of my views lean Republican. IMO, if more people were moderate, things could be much better. But, that is not the way the world spins, so I guess it will, sadly enough, remain it's same old over-50%-uneducated-in-world-events-and-politics self.
