Author's Note: I created this class for the Boards basing it off of another class used in my actual games set in the Layered Galaxy (Lirreka's home galaxy). I'm offering it up here in the Ebonclaw section not because it's an Ebonclaw class (Infact it isn't at all) but to A)Keep it from getting lost in the layers of the boards posts and pages and B)Because it will be used by another character of mine that I'm bringing to the board. As it is an indepth and focused class it isn't one that can be picked up easily. My character will be the only one who is qualified to teach its way. Also the class is effectively a Force Using class despite the constant referals to 'Maat'. In all simplistic sake it's an alternate Force Tradition, much like the Jenssari or the Fallessi.
The Blade Adept
From the earliest days of civilization the Sword has always been a unique creation. All other weapons before that were modified tools or had other uses such as hunting for food or the like. The Sword had one use, combat. As with all things there have always been people who followed the ways of the Sword with singleminded diligence. As civilizations reached into the stars the Followers of the Sword went with them. From these humble beginings came the Blade Adept.
With Monk-like faithfulness the Blade Adept focuses on the Blade and the lifeforce of the universe. Through these two ways the Adept walks the Path of Maat. They are bound by their oaths and devotions to do only good in the world, to further the lifeforce and to bring peace to conflict-ridden parts of the universe. Darkness (What most call evil) they call the Ahmaat. Those that follow the Dark ways of the Ahmaat turn their backs to the Maat and must be opposed until they see the errors of their ways and return to the Way or force the Adept to kill them in single combat. The Adept never seeks such an outcome but will not shirk from it.
The Adepts believe that excessive use of technology dulls the senses and weakens the mind. They also believe it hinders the connection one has with the Maat so they use only what they must. They travel by starship only when necessary, use computers hesitantly and NEVER use blasters or other technologically based weapons. They do not hold any type of hate for technology and as such are often in the company of Droids (Who often serve as pilots and such) seeing them as a nacent lifeform needing their nuturing and protection.
Vitality Points: D8
Skill Points: first level 4 + Intelligence bonus x 4
Skill Points: following levels 4 + intelligence bonus
Starting Feats: Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Masai Blade), Weapon Group Proficiency (Primative Weapons), Weapon Group Proficiency (Simple Weapons), Maat sensitivity
Class Features:
Quick Draw The Adept becomes attuned to their Scabbard and learns how to quick draw their sword (As the Feat by the same name)
Maati Training: Through focused and diligent training the would-be Blade Adept learns to open himself to the Maat, the lifeforce of the world around him. (This is exactly like Force Training) The Adept may choose one of the three feats Alter, Sense and Control.
Masai Blade Increase As an Adept delves into the ways of Maat he learns to channel this learning through his blade making it sharper allowing it to cause more damage while in his hands.
Exotic Weapon Proficiency (scabbard) By 4th level the Blade Adept learns to rely on his scabbard as much as his blade. The Wise warrior learns when best to cut ones enemy. When scabbarded the Masai Blade can be wielded effectively by a Blade Adept who can choose to make the strikes caused by the sheathed blade less deadly making the damage subdual. When sheathed the weapon causes 1d4 with an additional d4 for each Masai Blade increase the Adept has. If the Scabbard is held in the off hand the Adept gains a +2 to defense as long as the Adept keeps his dexterity bonus and isn't flat footed or surprised.
Improved Threat Range Through further study of the art of the Blade the Adept masters more effective means of fighting. He can increase the Critical threat range by one. This stacks with the Improved Critical Strike Feat.
Force Camouflage Through study of the Maat the Adept learns how to mask his presence from the senses of others including those adept in using the Maat (IE Force-Users). With a Force Stealth Roll the Adept can choose to hide his presence from the physical senses instead of hiding his aura from force users. At 9th level he can do one or the other, not both.
Craft Blade The Adept started his career as a Blade Adept with a basic Masai blade given to him by his Master. At 10th level the Adept has learned enough to craft his own blade and scabbard. The blade is a masterwork creation that increases the Hardness, WP, Break DC and Damage by 2.
Enhance Blade After making his blade the Adept spends much of his free time honing and perfecting the blade to his personal needs. At 15th level the Adept becomes one with his Blade. He adds another 2 to the Hardness, WP, Break DC and Damage.
Subtle Camouflage At 16th level the Adept's mastery of the Maat is so effective that his use of Force Stealth allows him to hide his presence from all senses. He becomes effectively invisible. While using this combined ability the Adept cannot use any other Force Powers, must move at half speed and cannot attack.
Perfect Strike At 19th level becomes finely attuned to his weapon and may, once every 10 combat rounds double their Masai blade's threat range for one round of attacks. This requires a full-round attack action. The Threat Range may not exceed 10-20. A successful Perfect Strike leaves the Blade Adept fatigued for a number of rounds equal to 6 - his Charisma Bonus regardless if he kills his opponent or not.
Limitations The Blade Adept for all of his ability has certain limitations that he must follow. 1) The Blade Adept many never gain more then 3 ranks in any inherently Technological skill (IE Astrogation, Pilot, Craft (Electronics), and the like.) Their belief that excessive use of technology weakens ones awareness of the Maat. Their dedication demands this of them. 2) Their focus on the Maat also demands they live a spartan austere existence dedicated to the defense of the innocent and helping those in need. A Blade Adept owns very little, keeping what monies they need to buy food and lodging as they travel. Only when an Adept is aged and can wander no more does he settle down and found a Tem-pi (Training school). Until such time they constantly wander remaining in one area only long enough to be of service. Ownership of anything beyond what they carry on their backs is rare and frowned upon. 3) To avoid conflicts of emotion Blade Adepts do not wed until their wandering days are over. They take no lover nor seek such bonds before such time. 4) Adepts MUST accept all calls for quarter and cannot attack those that have surrendered or have laid down their weapons. Even the act of killing a foe in battle is done only hesitantly. On a similar note all calls for aid by the innocent and envictimed must be honored.
Note The other class features (Block, Deflect, Uncanny Dodge, and Bonus Feat are exactly as written in the Core Rules.
