it Basically show's lucas as a asshole
n Jersey (The Channel Islands) Revenge of the Sith has been rated 15 because of the violence. Anyway I really want you to make a special extended DVD of Revenge of the Sith because it would be cool. And I also think Revenge of the Sith should be three hours long. FROM YOUR BIGGEST FAN: TOBIAS F.
George Lucas: Revenge of the Sith got a PG-13 rating from the MPAA for the United States. No big surprise. Hopefully, the kids will think Star Wars is cool now that it is rated a little higher.
I’m not going to make a special extended edition of Revenge of the Sith. If additional footage is shown, it will appear as deleted scenes on the Revenge of the Sith DVD.
I’m really tired of hearing from the fans that Revenge of the Sith needs to be three hours or longer. It’s not going to happen. It would be too expensive to make Revenge of the Sith longer than the rest of the Star Wars films.
John Williams is currently writing the music for Episode III. I think he's great and much deserving of the Kennedy Center Honor for lifetime achievement he received this year. Has he played any of the new Star Wars music for you yet? What musical tone for the movie are you looking for? I am looking foreword hearing it in May.
George Lucas: Your question was submitted in early January 2005. All the music is now complete for Revenge of the Sith. I’m ecstatic with the wonderful work Johnny has created for Revenge of the Sith. This is probably Johnny’s best work to date. I wanted Revenge of the Sith to sound dark and ominous. I want to scare people. That is what I want to do this time around.
Mr. Lucas, I apologize for the length, but I posed this question to SuperShadow and I am curious to know what you think. It has to do with the plot information that we've been given regarding Episodes 7 - 9. If the Kyber Crystal corrupts anyone who holds it to the Dark Side and the Kyber Crystal is indestructible. How can the Dark Side be destroyed forever?
George Lucas: The kyber crystal can’t be destroyed. The dark side can be destroyed. The crystal is just a means to harness the dark side in a concentrated space. The crystal is not the dark side. The crystal and the dark side are two separate things. I think you are confusing the two.
I understand wanting to give a definitive ending to Star Wars, but the existence of the crystal seems to make that impossible. Actually, don't the light side and the dark side exist in the people that use the Force. There is no light, without darkness. There is no movement, without stillness. Yen and Yang. As long as the Force exists it can be used for evil purposes.
The Jedi mind trick was used by Obi-Wan, but in the wrong hands the same Force power could be used for evil intent (the same is true for many Force powers). Maybe the Force itself should cease to exist keeping in mind that it gives life and is all around, so to destroy it would be to destroy all existence.
Luke Skywalker could reach an epiphany and sacrifice the Force so that it could not be used for evil any longer. Luke could either bring about the end of time (which I don't really like) or he could break the connection allowing beings to manipulate it (how would be up to yourself and this should help establish Luke as the wisest, most powerful Jedi ever).
With no more Force, there will be no more Star Wars. Others wouldn't be able to continue the story and butcher your vision. Perhaps control of the Force was given so they could reach an understanding that they could not trust themselves with that control. Therefore, it was a test to see if they would understand to give back the ability that they were given, saying they no longer needed it.
George Lucas: The light side and dark side of the Force are distinct from one another. The light side is like God and his angels while the dark side is like the devil and his demon hordes. Eventually the devil will be defeated for all time. Likewise it is only natural that the dark side be defeated for all time. You need to accept my vision because it will not change. Luke is the greatest Jedi of all time because he figures out a way to destroy the dark side.
There's something wrong with your neck. Please do something about it.
George Lucas: Well, I’m not ultra good looking like Shadow. I may be a little overweight. I like to eat. I’m getting older and my metabolism has slowed down so it’s easier for me to gain weight. I’m not going to have surgery to reduce the size of my neck. I’m not egotistical or vain. Just remember that I’ll be driving in my Lamborghini with a super model while you are left driving a Dodge Dart with your Dungeons and Dragons pals at your side. I always get the final laugh.
Hello Mr. Lucas. Here on SS.com awhile back, there was some fans who were worried about Grievous being able to take down a Jedi because Grievous is not Force sensitive. Can you clear this up? Maybe Grievous if Force sensitive, but if not, I thought it might have something to do with the light saber. You get a hold of the light saber which has Force sensitive crystals and you can deflect or block Force powers such a Force lightning. Thanks for the time.
George Lucas: This is a trap. If I say Grievous can harness the powers of the Force, people will cry that droids can’t be Force sensitive. If I say Grievous can’t make a connection to the Force, then people will argue that there would be no way Grievous could destroy Jedi without Force powers. I can’t win this one. I’m certainly not going to willingly create a plot error for all the fans to jump down my bones for the next 20 years. Let’s just say this question will never be answered by me. Perhaps the ancillary Star Wars stories in the novels or comic books will explain the secrets of Grievous.
Hi, I'm from Chile and my question is very simple, what do you think about The Lord of the Rings trilogy?
George Lucas: I’m a huge fan of J.R.R. Tolkien. I borrowed the title Return of the Jedi from Return of the King. So I’m obviously heavily indebted to Tolkien. I admire everything Tolkien did with Middle Earth. Such a rich tapestry of history that spans thousands of years. Some of the best fiction every written. I’m also a fan of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. He really hit high box-office numbers which is really what it’s all about. He also swept the Oscars which is something I’m never going to be able to do.
Mr. Lucas, thanks for the time with the fans. What do you think of the X-Files series? Also, I've often heard you mention your interest in the Vietnam War. Any plans to make a period piece involving Vietnam?
George Lucas: The X-Files was an interesting TV series. I never got a chance to watch it on TV back when it was on, but I have most of the seasons on DVD so I know most of the mythology created by Chris Carter and his pantheon of writers. The show is kind of uneven. Some episodes are great while others are quite silly. I hope they go ahead with a second X-Files movie and continue the story.
I helped write the story idea for Apocalypse Now. That is my only foray into the Vietnam era. I have no plans of making a film about Nam.
Hey Mr. Lucas: Just wondering, how powerful is Vader in Episode 3? And where would Vader rank on SS.com’s all time most powerful Sith list? P.S.: Keep up the good work.
George Lucas: Vader is at the top of his game during Revenge of the Sith. He is much more powerful than Count Dooku and Mace Windu, but a little weaker than Obi-Wan. Vader doesn’t reach his full potential until a few years after Revenge of the Sith. Vader is ranked at number two on Shadow’s list of top Sith, but this reflects Vader after Revenge of the Sith. During Revenge of the Sith, Vader is probably the seventh most powerful Sith ever.
George, has anyone ever told you, you look a lot like a mouse?
George Lucas: I like to wear a full beard and moustache so you can joke I look funny or even look like a mouse. If this makes you feel good, then say it all you want. Just remember that I’ll be sipping fine wine on the beaches of Monaco while you're flipping burgers at some fast food joint.
Mr. Lucas. Thank you so much for allowing me to pass on the Star Wars lore to my children. I just love being able to share some of what I grew up on myself with my son and daughter. Now to my question. Knowing the importance of the kyber crystal and how it enabled Sidious to gain enough power to overthrow the Republic and the Jedi, how come it doesn't make an onscreen appearance around Sidious' neck during his duel with Yoda? I know you like to leave your fans wanting more, but a quick appearance with Yoda reacting to it would show the fans why he took an "another time, another place" mind set and allow him to bow out more gracefully during this duel.
George Lucas: Well, the kyber crystal is a thorny issue. Most fans love the idea of the crystal, but a few don’t like it. Of course, these same fans criticize everything I do. The crystal is the secret of all Sidious’ vast powers. The only reason Sidious can cloud the entire light side of the Force is because Sidious possesses one of the crystals. I’m going to leave it at that. The fans know it exists so there is no reason to show it off on screen. It’s better to be mysterious.
