O.k...to start off, I just want to say that I only really have ONE complaint about ROTS...so I'll get that
out of the way.
My biggest complaint about ROTS is the fact
that Padme Skywalker is pregnant with twins
" Luke & Liea " and Padme looked barely 5 months
pregnant with one child.
I am an authority on this matter...and here are
my credentials. I happen to be a father of faternal
BOY/GIRL twins ( NO their names are not Luke and
Leia...I'm not THAT big of a Star Wars geek )
And I still can see how big my wife's belly was.
My son was only 3lbs.-7oz. and my daughter was
a mere 2lbs.-13oz. at birth...they were really teeny...
they fit snugly in the palm of my hand....never the less
my wife looked like she had swallowed a huge beach ball....so I feel the Star Wars people could have done a
better job at making Padme actually look like she was
pregnant with twins.
Now on to the review:
The opening scene took me quite by suprise,
every Star Wars movie has opened with either a
space ship passing overhead....or coming towards you.
so the pan down after the opening scroll...to temporarily
blind you with the sun...then the starship approacing from the left of the screen moving toward the right
and suddenly it was obvious that you were looking down on a spaceship....fantastic....then the two Jedi
fighters drop down from the top of the screen and
shoot towards the starship...puts you offguard...
if you hadn't really followed the teasers...at this point I
was completely unaware that the two fighters were
piloted by Anakin and Obi-Wan.
Then you realize that they are flying in
perfect unison...hinting at how Anakin and Obi-Wan
are in tune to each others piloting skills and style....
It is completely peacefull, except for that slightly
familiar engine roar I had heard a few decades ago...
at tihs point I half expected the fighters to approach
a landing bay of the starship ala EPISODE I...you see
the two fighters skim the top surface of the starship...
reaching the front focastle of the massive starship...
then....DROP...to reveal a massive battle above
Courescant.
OH man...I was awestruck...and comatose
during this whole sequence...it was at that very moment
I realized this was going to be a completely different kind of Star Wars movie....unlike any other Star Wars movie...right from the get go...it is different !
I especially liked the way movie flowed..from
action..to...love...to...confusion...to revelation...then
some more action..etc. The revelation I speak of
is how EP II introduced the CLONE TROOPERS and
how that came about..and it was fascinating to see
how the connection was made from Boba Fett in
the OT...I never made the connection from Boba Fett
to the Stormtroopers...but wait...EPIII answered a
big question that had bothered me for a while...
In EPII the clones were the GOOD guys...so how did
all that fit into the OT as the Stormtroopers were
the BAD guys....well the Jedi ourge ( ORDER 66 )
made that all clear to me...I had to fight back the tears
whilst witnessing the various battles on different planets turn to murderous tragedy..and it all becaome so clear to me at that point.
The Jedi Purge by the clone evoked more emotion
than Darth Vader leading the clones to the Jedi Temple...that just didn't hit me as hard as watching the different Jedi warriors being assasinated...was it me ?
when Anakin ( at this point Darth Vader not in mask yet)
was leading the marching Clones up the steps of the
Jedi Temple....and then between the massive pillars...as we look down apon the troopers...doesn't it almost look like DARTH VADER in full mode ? it almost looks like
he is wearing the helmet....or am I just imagining that ?
I thought that the Vader angry " NNNnnnoooooo ! " was a bit on the cheezy side...but I have seen worse in a Star Wars movie before so it didn't really bother me that much...I thought maybe
it would have been more dramatic and evoke a
stronger emotion in the audience if Vader would have
broken loose and in an intial Force outburst..then...
have Vader step away from the table and perhapse
dropped to his knees ( Perhapse not as he just got the leg implants ) or maybe just had him suddenly calm
down...drop his head...then turn his helmeted head
to Sidious and then drop back down....but who am I...
just a plain kinda person that isn't a good story teller.
All in all...I thought it was the ultimate Star Wars
movie...it brought more substance to the entire Star Wars saga...answered questions...yet left some unanswered..oh well...it was as close to perfection in my eyes as one can find !
Also the Death Star thing....It is clear to me why
it took 20 years to build the first one..and only about 4 or 5 to build the second....whos to say that the emperor
didn't have a second one started 4-5 years after the
first...or....perhapse...the first death star was the
prototype...so there was probably many modifications
and trial an error...always is on the prototype...
the second death star was built faster cos they had ironed out the details on the first death star...whatya think ?
All in all...I'll give this movie....1,000 thumbs up !
I have seen it four times now and I can't wait for the
DVD to be released !
