Well... the origional idea was that Palpatine learned the "power" from Plagueis and created Anakin... but it was too much of an "Im your father" moment, so Lucas scrapped it. holy crap so i was onto what Lucas was originally planning to do?!?!?!?

Darth Plagueis was rumored to be Palp's master before Ep2 even came out. It was said it would show some back story in EP2 about how palp became a darklord. It was like deja Vu when they said Plagueis was his master? Really weird that it was known that long ago!
The rumor before EP2 was that Palp came upon a sith holocron while on a diplomatic mission...now this is pure speculation mind you.

Labyrinth of Evil mentions Plagus (or however you spell it) very, very briefly.
It just says that he was Palpatine's master, nothing more.
I could see Palpatine making up the "He could use the Force to create life" crap. I mean...when he pulls the "only one has stopped death before, but if we work together, we can find it" crap...if I was Anakin, I'd have just tried to kill him there.
It is very possible that he made up the whole legend of Plagus entirely, and just used the name...hey, Anakin wouldn't know if he was telling the truth or not.

Seeing that Palpatine controlled nearly every event leading up to his takeover, it wouldn't be too hard to believe that he made up this story to sway Anakin. I personally think that he also planted those visions about Padme's death in Anakin's mind. I'm sure someone has said this before, though.
Palpatine is the most controlling and intelligent character I have ever read about in any story. If you read Cloak of Deception, your jaw will drop several times when you realize how many things he changed to see himself put into power.
edit: I keep calling it Cloak of Darkness...

Taken from the ROTS novelization:
"Do you remember that myth I told you of, The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise?" the shadow whispered. The myth— ... directly influence the midi-chlorians to create life; with such knowledge, to maintain life in someone already living would seem a small matter...
"Yes," Anakin said. "Yes, I remember." The shadow leaned so close that it seemed to fill the world. "Anakin, it's no mere myth." Anakin swallowed. "Darth Plagueis was real."
Anakin could force out only a strangled whisper. "Real... ?" "Darth Plagueis was my Master. He taught me the key to his power," the shadow said, dryly matter-of-fact, "before I killed him."

He could be lying still, but I don't think he is.

eh... whatever.... it was a good idea at the time i thought.... but oh well... Well... the origional idea was that Palpatine learned the "power" from Plagueis and created Anakin... but it was too much of an "Im your father" moment, so Lucas scrapped it. That would have blown I'm your father out of the water! and yes Plaguis was Sids masta! They were talking about that around the time EP 2 came out!

Darth Plagueis was Sidious's master. Anybody who has read the Star Wars Revenge of the Sith book will know this because he tells Anakin. And although he never actually says it... It looks alot like he knew how to stop death because thats how he kept Anakin from dieing at the end.

My two cents...
Plagueis (sp?) was the master of Darth Sidious, but Sidious knew that his murder was planned as Plagueis was planting several seeds concieved by midichlorians throughout the galaxy. Seeing his chance, and knowing that no more could be learned from his master, Sidious slaughtered his master in his sleep (a cowardly act for a powerful sith lord, i might add). Sidious knew all the techniques to create life, but lacked the power to do so. the furthest he could do was to prevent death, to a certain extent. And so Sidious looked for the seeds his master had planted. Now i know very little on the past of Darth Maul, so forgive me if i sound like an idiot. But i believe that maul was found to be concieved by midichlorians. Palpatine then proceeded to train Maul from birth to be his original Darth Vader (hence Maul's brute - like character).
Unfortunately, a young Jedi padawan sliced Maul in half, so Sidious was back to the drawing board. Running out of time, Sidious corrupted the Jedi Count Dooku to the darkside as the Kaminoans began to clone for the republic. Dooku was merely a placeholder, a puppet of sidious, the public face of the Sith, designed to turn attention away from other suspects (yoda i believe had his suspicions in early AOTC when palpatine finished sentences). But already palpatine had heard of the young padawan Anakin Skywalker, reputed to be a Chosen One, meant to bring balance to the Force. It is likely that Palpatine had knowledge of the Sith version of the Prophecy, and began to quietly nudge against Skywalker's Jedi training, causing the jedi to become disillusioned slightly. Once Sidious deemed the time was right, he betrayed Dooku, allowing Skywalker to slaughter the Sith Lord. From this, I believe, Sidious had too strong a hold on skywalker (telling him what the Knight wanted to hear) for the Jedi to break free alone. Then Sidious revealed himself to Skywalker, anticipating the fight to come as skywalker continued to believe his allegiance lay with the Jedi. The death of Mace Windu sealed the deal, and so sidious finally had his dream apprentice, Darth Vader.
Seems like an aweful lot of work to replace one apprentice, eh?

Okay, the one problem with your "two cents" is this: Sidious openly admited to lying.
"To cheat death is a power only one has achieved, but if we work together I know we can discover the secret..."
So, Sidious may have been able to learn the technique to creating life, as you said, he definately could not actually implement it.
Also, Plagueis creating Anakin and then not having him be born for another 15 - 20 years is a little hoaky.
How do I get 15 - 20 years you ask? Maul was trained from birth, meaning that Plagueis would have to be dead when Sidious found Maul. Anakin is almost ten in Episode I - The Phantom Menace and Maul has to be at least 25 - 30. So, subtract the 9 or so years old Anakin is from that and you have 15 - 20 years.
And, if Anakin was created by the force that would complete mess up the "Prophecy of the Chosen One". The Chosen One was to be created by the Force, not created using the Force. It would be one giant contridiction.
"The Chosen One, who was created by the Force itself, will be born to a virgin mother and bring balance to the Force."
That about sums it up right there. I know it was never said, but it's basically my condensed version of the prophecy. It does not say "who was created by USING the Force itself". Therefore, Anakin could not have been created by the Sith.
Don't you all think that if Anakin was created by the Sith it would have actually been said in the movie. Oh, wait! I have more proof that I am right!
There was a scene in the script where Palpatine DID INDEED tell Anakin that he created him using the Force. That was dropped because Lucas DID NOT want people to think that Palpatine was Anakin's "father".
"Your honor, the state rests its case..."
