'Twas the end of the school year in 2004. My good friend, whom some of you may know as Hoorex Kwando AKA Darius Lenoth AKA Mandalore (And also a few more characters, but thats ancient history) had just gotten the 2003 GOTY, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. He raved on and on about it to me, but I was a bit hesitant. Star Wars? Not really into the whole thing. I mean, it was OK, but I didn't like it as much as, say, Marvel Comics.
But I threw caution to the wind (Not really) and started playing the game at Hoorex's house. I fell in love instantly. I was never a big RPG gamer, but this was just a nice piece of gaming! Immediately, I went to my local Best Buy and picked up SWKOTOR 1 for my PC. I beat it as quickly as humanly possible, and consumed the game in as many fashions as I could again and again and again. A Star Wars fan and an RPG gamer was borne that day...
But soon, I was hearing rumors on the web. Something about a KOTOR.... II? So me loving the series as I did, went to the LucasArts site, and saw it: The KOTOR Section! I signed up under the alias '((('L'(((Wolverine' and posted a couple times, giving my opinion on various rumors on the forums.
I wasn't a big member. Mainly a reader. But soon, I saw a couple members, J3Carlisle, Eliatra Sabre, Darth Jetzt, Devlen Darkbroode, Jedi Master Sean, all of these people started making these 'Free-for-all Lightsabre Duel' threads. I paid them no heed, and continued on. How naive I was...
Soon, the thing had apparently picked up, and it was a board. The RolePlaying Board, it was called. I scrolled through it, and it looked interesting. I followed the plot, but I was confused as to how to join, and how to RP. Finally, I decided to just go for it, and changed my SN to 'Deadeye Duncan', one of my favorite KOTOR characters. I decided the Jedi looked like a fit, and I posted a sign-up, on a chilly night in September. Fate was changed for all concerned this night, as we were to find out later...
Instantly, I was taken aback by how quickly I was accepted with loving arms into the Jedi. People like Eliatra Sabre, bhplifeguard07 (AKA Kit Rendar AKA Darth Ravinos AKA Whatever-his-new-name-is), Jedi Master Seth, Shadow, and Sstep helped me out, and Shadow and Eliatra took the time to begin training me in the art of RPing and in the Jedi arts.
So it was that I started my career as an RPer. I continued my training for about one, maybe two days, until one day, the man and Jedi known only as Sstep, and possibly Askrut Ak'vys, posted a thread. This thread told the members to post their AIM so that we could communicate off the forum. I posted mine, figuring why not.
I started recieving pms. The first was from Jedi Master Seth, who started my training. He gave me the SNs of Eli, Kit, and Sstep. So this fantastic fivesome was formed. We formed a nightly chat room, discussing the events of the Jedi in secrecy, and formed a good bond between us all.
I progressed through the ranks, and became a Jedi Knight in a week. By that time, another had joined our chats, a Jedi Knight known as Kreel. Now the six of us were all together, conversing away, as I steadily grew in abilities, IC and in RPing skills.
But soon, the forums grew chaotic. A Mister ZanzibarVic (AKA Too Many Names to Count) started spamming the forums. The Force of the Tamir (AKA Ashurbanipal AKA Ashur AKA Jagganath AKA Darius) starts being a total dumbass, and the forums grew worse.
But one stepped forward. A Dark Lady Cyris. She had a new idea: to create our own forum. And she did, she made the forum. I was the third member on it, I remember it well. Soon, almost all members had flocked to Cyris's site, with seperate boards, avatars, and everything.
I flourished here. I still communicated with my good Jedi pals, but I did mission after mission after mission. See, on Cy's site, we had Jedi Missions, which one could do for credits and experience. I had a simply voracious appetite, and did more missions there than anyone could count. I was still a Knight, and not too many respected my abilities, but noone could deny the credits I had earned. And three more I had befriended, a Lady Jenra, a Mister Ranka Darkbroode (Who I had known before as Kel Kerbaz) and Brutalidon (AKA Dexon Kyjar AKA Whatever his name is Kyjar). The last two I mainly knew because of our incessant duels which happened at an almost daily pace.
But soon, for various reasons, the site was dying. People were leaving to go to three new sites: One made by a certain Darth Hawken, one made by a certain Darth Jetzt, and another made by a Lady Jenra. Soon the site was dead altogether, everyone split.
I had joined Lady Jenra's, as she was a friend of mine. But the site was small, not much happened. I was growing bored, and now impatient, as they had refused to make me a Jedi Master. And soon, I grew truly peeved as they had a rule: You could only be in a single RP at a time. I had joined an RP with a man, I will not name him, but he would NOT FRIGGIN POST! For a month or so, I could do nothing as he didnt post.
But then salvation came in the form of a new member: Jetzt. He joined the site, and gave me a PM showing me his new site. I joined, resenting the members of the site as time grew further. I was amazed at how grand it was. Instantly I was taken as a Jedi Master, (And I did deserve it!) and I even still knew some of the members. I had known of Jetzt's site, but lost it when a certain accident had gotten it shut down.
From there, its history. I continued to RP on Jetzt's site, and brought here the Mandalorian Hoorex Kwando. Although he had joined Cyris's site twice or thrice before under my command, he didnt do anything. This time, he was caught, and he grew through the ranks until he was a Moderator, and now Mandalore himself. I myself had even progressed to the rank of Global Moderator.
In a way, you can say that I wouldnt be rping if it wasnt for Hoorex, as he introduced me to SW and KOTOR. But it was me who introduced him to the wonders of Roleplaying.
And there you have it folks. A fairly nice summary of my history as an RPer.
