Are you useing Maya?...here, to get a more realistic look;
You have the blade style looking better.. but you want to open special effects in the attridutes editor
select the blade: open its atribute editor, OR hold down the left mouse button and drag the arrow down to * polycylender, or whatever it is.
Go to special effects and click on glow: move the intencity up
In the render options make sure your background color is black, looks better.......in the quality pick production quality, and go down to Ray trace options, and enable raytracing, this will give your phong, or blin, or what ever you used for the metal a more metalic reflection quality

The hilt is improved alot! It seems far more real. Maybe for the blade you could pitch the glow level a bit down or make the center blade a bit thiner and the glow around it slightly darker. Maybe some fog or very tiny particles?
