I am pretty sure they do... but mammels dont lay eggs? Thats why they are so unique, platypus also lay eggs and they are mammels. Its an odd world out there.

yes they are. They are one of the few exceptions to the mammal rule (not laying eggs). I think there are 1 or 2 others...

The platypus seems weird to people because it lays eggs and is a mammal, but really it's just a creature that's just very specialized to do what platys do best -- swim, eat, and burrow!
i got that off of PBS.org...

burrowing Monotremes (egg laying mammals) There are only three living monotremes, the duck-billed platypus and two species of echidna, or "spiny anteaters". All of them are found only in Australia and New Guinea. Monotremes are not a very diverse group today, and there has not been much fossil information known until rather recently. In some ways, monotremes are very primitive for mammals because, like reptiles and birds, they lay eggs rather than having live birth. In a number of other respects, monotremes are rather derived, having highly modified snouts or beaks, and modern adult monotremes have no teeth. Like other mammals, however, monotremes have a single bone in their lower jaw, three middle ear bones, high metabolic rates, hair, and they produce milk to nourish the young.
