Biography:
The Zabrak homeworld of Iridonia had just recovered from the devistation that was the Mandalorian War. Technology was once again making leaps and bounds on it's surface. It's citizens had just began to settle down into their new homes - but such peace would not last for long.
Voris Talin was born with the name Voris Kurinos. His surname was taken from his unknown father and he grew up as the child of a single mother. Ahtena Talin worked as a mechanic for the RedClaw, one of the local swoop gangs, to keep food on the table for herself and her son. Life was rough for them, but they were happy with each other.
As the child of a mechanic, he'd grown up around machinery and learned how to repair and alter them better than his mother could. Ahtena was proud of her son's achievements in the field of machinery and urged him to pursue a career in the field of mechanics. Voris, however, felt that his talents could best be used elsewhere...
At the age of 12, Voris's mother fell ill from the stress of working non-stop and raising a child by herself. Her son took her place as a mechanic for RedClaw. His abilities allowed him to keep the gang's swoops running in better-than-new conditions: He could tinker around inside the engines and make them faster, better, and able to hold out longer. He was paid extremely well, due to the fact that the RedClaw was now winning nearly every race. He used the credits to pay for the rent, food, his mother's medical treatments - everything.
At 15, he was legally allowed to leave the planet and participate in swoop competitions on other planets. Although he mainly went along as a mechanic, there were some instances of him participating in the races a pilot when the usual racers could not. Unknowingly aided by the Force, Voris made an excellent swoop pilot - almost as good as he was at repairs.
His last trip out of Iridonia was to Telos. He was to take part in the swoop competition on Citidel Station, once again under the banner of RedClaw. It was the first time in his piloting carrer that Voris had lost. His mind had wandered off to Iridonia before, during and after the races. He knew that something had happened back home - he could sense it. When he told his teammates that they had to return to Iridonia, they all told him the same thing: "You're crazy!" and "oh, I'm sure everything is fine." Oh, how wrong they were...
The day before they were planned to leave the station, word of the Sith's occupation of their home planet had reached Telos. It swept across the station like wildfire just as any news of the Sith always had. When Voris stopped to listen to the HoloNet, he found that he already knew what they were going to say: Iridonia had been captured. Their world had been captured in their absence, and now they could never go home.
For the next year, Voris and the members of the broken RedClaw lived on the station. On top of still working as a mechanic for his team, he worked as a technician for Czerka Corp., saving what little money he could in between food, rent, and other expenses. All the while, one thought kept coming across his mind: Free Iridonia. And he knew just how to do that. He would leave Citidel Station and travel to the planet below. He would go to Telos's polar cap. He would go to the Jedi Academy.
When he finally saved up enough money to buy transport to the Academy, he planned to leave that day. Voris left his fellow Iradonians his share of the month's rent, a little extra credits for food, and a note. Scrawled out on the piece of paper were two simple sentences:
Gone to free Iridonia.
Wish me luck.
On board the shuttle, he made a decision with himself. He would shed the name Kurinos - that name did not belong to him. Voris, son of Ahtena, took on the surname Talin - vowing that he would take back his planet and reunite with his mother.
When he arrived at the Jedi Academy on Telos, he was almost immediately sent off to Ossus, where he would train under the wing of Jorax Cyneus. It was there that he chose his path as a Jedi Guardian and constructed his curved-hilt lightsaber, an excellent saber for the Makashi form in which he hoped to learn.
He is a survivor of the Battle of Coruscant. Upon the exile of the 'chosen ones,' Voris began to doubt his place in the Jedi Order. His brief meeting with Darth Elementral on the desert world of Tatooine reminded him of the Siths' ways and what they had taken from him. His path towards the light continued.
Voris came to live in the massive estate of Vo Qel-Droma, offering to repair the many droids that the estate houses in exchange for a room. He probably would have been allowed to stay anyway, but his offer was accepted. Now if only Master Duncan would stop making the droids dance...
