Takkun was born in the slums of Alderan with his family, struggling to survive. At an early age, he showed signs of force sensitivity. With the meager wage his father made, there was no way that he could afford transport to the Jedi. After many years of living in those slums, Takkun finally managed to stow away on a transport to find the Jedi.
